Perched high in the hills of the Rockfish River Valley with spectacular views the nearby mountains, Hill Top was originally a pick-your-own berry farm. But since 1993, they have specialized in creative wines made from berries and fruits other than grapes. Their selection of handcrafted "True to the Fruit" wines includes authentic honey meads, offering a unique tasting experience. You can still pick your own blackberries at Hill Top in July & August.

Located nearby in Western Albemarle County, the Pollak Vineyards tasting room sits amid 27 acres of French vinifera. Their patio offers views of the vineyards, the adjacent pond and the spectacular Blue Ridge Mountains just to the west. To complement your favorite glass of Pollak wine, they also feature a menu of cheeses, charcuterie, Albemarle Baking Company baguettes and unique local jams. Pollak is open daily from 11 to 5.

Brent Manor is a new and unique boutique winery located in eastern Nelson County, just south of Charlottesville. In their tasting room, they bring a mixture of the New and Old (Portugal) Worlds, both in the wines they offer and in the overall feel of the winery. Democracy offers a nice portfolio of estate grown reds and white (and even an apple wine using Nelson County apples), producing from an acre each of Chambourcin, Petit Verdot, Merlot, Pinotage, Viognier and Petit Manseng. Their tasting room, in nearby Lovingston, is open Thursday through Monday from April to mid-December, and Friday, Saturday and Holiday Mondays in February and March.

Flying Fox is a small, family-run winery with its six and ½ acre vineyard planted to red varieties. They manage their vines for low yield and maximum fruit intensity, producing  Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, Viognier and Pinot Gris. King Family is a family owned and operated winery located in Crozet, with spectacular views of the Blue Ridge Mountains just to the west. Winemaker Matthieu Finot uses carefully selected grapes for their estate vineyards to produce wines inspired by the old world. As one of the few certified organic wineries in the country, Loving Cup grows hybrid grapes that are less susceptible to disease. They currently produce two varieties of white grapes, and two varieties of red. Located just to our east in Albemarle County, their tasting room is open Friday through Sunday, April to December.

Built into a hillside in Southern Nelson County, Lovingston Winery is able to utilize gravity-flow method to produce wines from its 8.5 acres of densely-planted vines. Winemaker Riaan Rossouw oversees production of their limited portfolio, which includes Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Mansing and Pinotage. Tastings are available Wednesday through Sunday from April to November, and by appointment December to March.

As Virginia’s oldest winery, Mountain Cove welcomes you to come by for a tasting and tour of the winery. They are one of the few wineries in the area that does not charge for a tasting. They pride themselves on producing strictly vegan wines. Tastings are available Wednesday through Sunday, March to December, and by appointment in January and February.

Visit Pippin Hill’s scenic tasting room to enjoy not only a sampling of their great wines, but also to experience their famous food pairings menu. Chef Bill Scatena uses locally sourced ingredients to produce everything from house-made pastas to Pippin Hill sliders. Opened in December 2017, Septenary Winery at Seven Oaks Farm sits on a 109-acre estate just 15 minutes west of Charlottesville. The estate is a Virginia Historic Landmark and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The vineyard on the estate includes a little over 7 acres of mature vines, including Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, Syrah, and Viognier. The winery also has access to some 26 acres of vineyards in Essex County, near the Rappahannock River. The owners, both UVa grads, have worked hard to preserve the history and natural beauty of the estate. They are excited to share their vision with all of those who visit the winery or drink their wine.

Valley Road is one of the newest local vineyards, occupying the site right on Route 151 formerly the home of A.M. FOG, and bottling their first wines in April, 2016. You can visit their tasting room, open daily, except for Tuesdays, to enjoy a tasting or wine & cheese pairing or bring your own picnic while you relax on their patio. Valley Road is also quickly becoming known for its Thursday evening music series, featuring great local artists.

Since opening 1999, the Hodson family has grown Veritas into over 50 acres of vineyards, producing a full portfolio of red, white and sparkling wines. They offer tours, by reservation, of their crush pad, wine cellar and barrel room. Cheese and charcuterie plates, and picnic lunches with reservation, are available for purchase to enjoy on their deck or in the tasting room. Their “Starry Nights” summer concerts (4 events each summer) have become some of the most popular events in the county.
