What’s happening at Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello?
Monticello is a whole lot more than a simple building. While its architectural aspects are both beautiful and significant, this home of America’s third president (and author of the Declaration of Independence!) also draws in history buffs, gardening enthusiasts, nature lovers and more. There are some fantastic upcoming events that promise to be both fun and educational while including these various interests, so keep reading to learn more:
Spring Wildflower Walk, April 7, 9, 2016: Is there any better way to enjoy the arrival of this season than by observing the local “botanical treasures of early spring”? Grab a pair of sturdy shoes and join your group and guide for five miles and three hours of plant exploration along the woods and rivers of Monticello.
Founder’s Day, April 13, 2016: Monticello is gearing up for Thomas Jefferson’s 273rd birthday, which will feature a keynote speech from Marian Wright Edelman, the founder and president of the Children’s Defense Fund. (While this event will be much more enjoyable in person, there will also be a live stream available so you can enjoy Edelman’s speech remotely.)
Historic Garden Week, April 23-30, 2016: Monticello is one of 250 participating homes, gardens, and historic landmarks during this annual Virginia event. Between the lectures, informational sessions, and garden tours, you’ll feel like an expert at the end of the week’s activities!
