The Virginia Festival of the Book 2015
“I declare after all there is no enjoyment like reading! How much sooner one tires of any thing than of a book! -- When I have a house of my own, I shall be miserable if I have not an excellent library.” –Jane Austen, Pride and Prejudice
In the age of fast-paced technology and instant gratification, sometimes it’s a wonder that people still enjoy sitting down with peace, quiet, and a good book. But reading is one of life’s simple pleasures, and no event celebrates this as well as the much anticipated Virginia Festival of the Book.
The 2015 Virginia Festival of the Book will take place in Charlottesville, VA (yep, just a quick drive from Afton Mountain Bed & Breakfast) on March 18-22, and it’s shaping up to be a fun and informative event for literature lovers of all genres. So, what exactly can you expect at this upcoming book bash?
- Book signings. Is there anything more special than meeting the creator of a work of art, particularly when it’s a subject you love?
- Readings from authors and poets. Whether you’re a fan of fiction, fantasy, classical poetry, biographies, or history, you’ll find a wide range of authors and poets who span a number of genres. Enjoy a reading from your favorite genre or two, or explore as many as you can.
- Dramatic performances. If you’ve ever wanted to see a dramatization of Androcles and the Lion (or you’re simply curious to see what it’s about), then here’s your chance.
- Informative lectures. From baby food to Civil War history, the Virginia Festival of the Book provides a huge range of lecture topics. Interested in natural health remedies? Women in the Civil War? Mental health? Edgy fiction? The festival will cover all of these and more.
- Interactive workshops. Learn how to find an agent, promote your book, set realistic goals, and achieve a publishing contract. (Note: These workshops usually require pre-registration and a fee.)
You have more than a month to start planning your book-based getaway, so mark your calendars, and book your room at Afton Mountain Bed & Breakfast. Happy reading!
