Travel the Monticello Artisan Trail
The Monticello Artisan Trail includes a series of local establishments with everything from pottery and oil paintings to history museums and wineries. Here are a few of our favorite trail suggestions that you may want to visit while you’re in town:
Artisan Studios:
Rockfish River Pottery: Browse Patricia Yoder’s pottery for pieces that are both beautifully decorative and functional.
The Blackburn Gallery: “Like a Fine Art Museum where all the Art is for sale." Oil on canvas, New England seascapes, Adirondack landscapes, and local photography are only a few of the mediums you’ll find at this wonderful gallery.
Crozet Artisan Depot: Visit this historic train depot, where you’ll find a selection of arts, crafts, and accessories from over 50 different regional artisans.
Agri-Artisan:
Afton Mountain Vineyards: “Grapes don’t grow in ugly places.” We love that this local vineyard is on the Artisan Trail! Stop by for a sip or two of award-winning Virginia wine.
Carter Mountain Orchard: Enjoy the variety of peaches, apples, nectarines, and more. For added enjoyment, Carter Mountain Orchard also offers a Thursday Evening Sunset Series with dinner, live music, hayrides, and gorgeous views.
Wild Wolf Brewing Company: “Not your typical brewpub.” Pair your IPA, your pilsner, or your lager with the mouthwatering selection of Wolf Wolf’s menu. (They’re also a Virginia Green business with an emphasis on sustainability!)
Points of Interest:
Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello: Admire the architecture of Thomas Jefferson’s home, which was inspired by the Italian Renaissance architect Andrea Palladio. Between the building, the gardens, and the history, a visit to Monticello is both enjoyable and educational.
Michie Tavern: “Get a taste of the 18th century!” Indulge in some history with traditional colonial food, period costumes, a General Store, and self-guided tours.
