Tour Inglewood Lavender Farm in Arrington, VA
“The air was fragrant with a thousand trodden aromatic herbs, with fields of lavender...” --William Cullen Bryant
Lavender, as you well know, is more than just a pretty color. It is also “an herb in the mint family that is primarily employed for its fragrance in the garden and in personal care products, but also finds its way into culinary use” (WiseGeek). If you are looking to explore the beauty of lavender and to indulge your senses, then you will enjoy a tour at Inglewood Lavender Farm in Arrington, VA.
Inglewood was built in 1892 and had its first planting in 2011. Now, the ten-acre farm produces five varieties of lavender from 6,500 different plants. From the moment you step out of your car and onto the farm, there is a feeling of calm that emanates from Inglewood. From the placid scenery to the soothing scents, this lavender farm is a uniquely peaceful experience. Kathy Tillman, one of Inglewood’s owners, says, “Inglewood Lavender Farm has picnic tables dotting the lawn and customers are encouraged to bring lunch or wine and cheese while they relax in our beautiful lavender fields. Our pretty shop is full of all natural lavender soaps, lotions, oils, and other lovely lavender inspired items. Docile sheep graze around our picturesque farm and many visitors enjoy the vast photo opportunities.”
Furthermore, there are a few new sights and activities for 2013, including a “summer portrait opportunity,” mini massage sessions, bluebird nesting boxes, and a steam distillation unit for extracting the essential oil from lavender.
