A Sweet Treat on National Dessert Day
What meal is complete without a delicious dessert at the end? October 14 is National Dessert Day, and if you’ll be staying at Afton Mountain Bed & Breakfast, then we have some delectable desserties only a quick drive away from us.
Country Confections, Fishersville: You may have caught one of our past blogs that featured Country Confections, so you already know that we’re big fans of these cake-making individuals, and we even offer a special to coincide with their sweets. Try a simple golden yellow cake with chocolate buttercream frosting or a red velvet cake with silk icing and gum paste flowers. Fill it with chocolate hazelnut, red raspberry, or spiced apple, and enjoy this tasty treat from the comfort of an Afton Mountain room.
Spudnut Shop, Charlottesville: Spudnuts are potato flour donuts (thus the “spud” in their name) that date all the way back to 1946 when two brothers began a chain that eventually spanned the East and West Coast as well as Alaska and Mexico. Charlottesville’s own Spudnut Shop carries on the tradition of these much beloved, fresh, hot donuts, so stop by and see why these old-school donuts are still a favorite.
Albemarle Baking Company, Charlottesville: From chocolate éclair to French macaron to chocolate praline crunch cake, Albemarle Baking Company offers a host of desserts to satisfy your sweet tooth. Sink your teeth into apple caramel brioche or a pumpkin cream cheese muffin. Savor a chocolate ganache tart or a Black Cadillac cookie. All options are delicious and freshly baked.
Giancarlo Fine European Pastries, Staunton: “Giancarlo Fine European Pastries is a unique little gem of a pastry shop tucked away in a former garage.” Whether you’re looking for a mouthwatering chocolate treat, a perfectly presented cannoli, or a Tiramisu cake, Giancarlo has you covered. With Giancarlo’s extensive background in baking (including serving as the executive pastry chef at Keswick Hall), you can be assured that you’ll be tasting quality.
Gearharts Fine Chocolates, Charlottesville: Dessert just wouldn’t be dessert if it didn’t involve some sort of chocolate. We use Gearharts in our Valentine’s Day special, and nothing satisfies the palate quite like these mouthwatering fine chocolates. From the peanut butter pups to the almond mocha, there’s a flavor for everyone. Try the malted milk hazelnut, the tequila lime, the vanilla bean brulee, or the Earl Grey. Just be warned that it’s hard to stop with only one bite!
