Spooktacular Fun Around Afton, Virginia
Autumn is our favorite time of the year. As October approaches, orange and black decorations come out in full force, along with plenty of “spooktacular” fun to celebrate the Halloween season. Autumn is also one of the best times to explore Afton and the wondrous natural colors of the Blue Ridge foliage. And if your interest is piqued by the supernatural, you can have a frighteningly good time in and around the Afton area. Here are just of the few spooky activities that you might enjoy:
- Twizted Creationz, Waynesboro, VA: This haunted attraction runs for every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday during the month of October. From creepy clowns and supernatural creatures to various other monsters that go bump-in-the-night, you’ll love the jumps and scares as you make your way through this 16-year old haunted maze. (The best part about this attractions is that all proceeds go towards Camp LIGHT, a summer camp for children with chronic illness and special needs as well as at-risk youth.)
- Ghosts of Staunton Walking Tour, Staunton, VA: You’ll experience more history than horror on these fascinating walking tours of the nearby Queen City of Staunton. Learn about ghost sightings in the area as you traverse some of Staunton’s haunted locations, including the train depot, where you’ll also have the opportunity to take part in listening for ghostly voices from the Spirit Box. - Swannanoa Palace, Afton, VA (pictured below): This historic mansion may be falling into disrepair, but it sort of adds to the creepy atmosphere. Back in 2013 and 2014, a local ghost hunting group from the Twisted Paranormal Society took a tour of the palace and found some pretty convincing evidence of ghostly residents in the mansion. While we can’t guarantee any supernatural occurrences on your visit, you’ll definitely still enjoy a decaying but beautiful glimpse of history at Swannanoa’s Open House Tours.
All you need to complete a visit to these haunted jaunts is a place to stay and rest your head. Click here to book your room at Afton Mountain Bed & Breakfast. Take any photos on your tours? We’d love to see them on our Facebook page.
