Sip Your Way Up and Down the Shenandoah Beerwerks Trail
Grab your favorite local brew, and raise a glass to Virginia Craft Beer Month! If you’re looking for a great way to finish off the beer bash of August 2016, then let us suggest a pathway of local breweries to quench your thirst.
The Shenandoah Beerwerks Trail is ready and waiting for beer lovers, not only during Virginia Craft Beer Month, but during the rest of the year as well. Although some of the participating breweries are quite a drive away from Afton, check out these three Beerwerks locales that take only 15-30 minutes to reach from Afton Mountain Bed & Breakfast:
1. Basic City Beer Co. – Located in the old-but-newly-renovated Virginia Metalcrafters building, Basic City Beer is the area’s newest brewery and is set to open this September. Basic City Beer promises top-notch quality crafted from natural spring artesian water. Also, one of their very first events will be a fundraiser to benefit the Woodrow Wilson Rehabilitation Center Foundation, so stop by on September 30, 2016 for a Tailgate Throwdown.
2. Seven Arrows Brewing – Sit back in this relaxed environment and sip a cold brew on tap. If you’re a fan of lagers, then you won’t want to miss the gold medal-winning Skyline Lager, a light, refreshing beer to for any occasion. Sip a Fireball Blood Orange Lambic with hints of vanilla, charred oak, red wine, and oranges, or savor a Sinistral Wheat, a Bavarian Style beer with notes of banana and clove. These all sound deliciously refreshing, don’t they?
3. Stable Craft Brewing – As you may surmise from the name, this brewery is indeed located at a stable, and the resident horses will be there to greet you on arrival. (If you want to take a selfie with Morocco the stallion, he’s usually waiting at the front entrance to greet brewery guests.) Pair the light flavors of the American Blonde Ale or a hop-heavy IPA with a selection from the menu—brewhouse burgers, pesto chicken sandwich, smoked pulled pork tacos, and more.
We can’t think of a better way to enjoy Virginia Craft Beer Month than by celebrating some of the most recent breweries in the state. Top it all off with a stay at Afton Mountain Bed & Breakfast, and it will be a Virginia vacation to remember. (And if you’re interested in exploring a second beer trail, check out the Brew Ridge Trail.)
