Set Your Sights on Silverback Spirits and Distillery
“Too much of anything is bad, but too much good whiskey is barely enough.” ― Mark Twain
With a wide range of local breweries, wineries, vineyards, and cideries, it’s no surprise that this area of Virginia is a popular libation destination, and now Nelson County is taking it a step further. In spring of 2014, we will have the pleasure of welcoming a distillery to our area.
Silverback Distillery will be offerings four spirits—gin, vodka, whisky, and bourbon. Owners Christine and Denver Riggleman are eager for opening day and the customers that will try out their wares. At this point, the Rigglemans are in the planning phase. They’ve broken ground, designed their merchandise, filed all the paperwork to have a tasting room, set up a Facebook page, and created a motto, “Rule your nest. Be an alpha.” While their website only has a placeholder logo for now, stay tuned, because they’ll have it running soon. Christine says, “We will have a tasting room and will be selling our product at the distillery as well as the ABC stores…We have merchandise already that will be for sale on the website within the next couple of weeks. We have shirts, coats, beanies, baseball caps, stickers, car stickers.”
And in case you’re wondering, “Silverback” is indeed a reference to adult, male gorillas, which are dominant and in charge of the entire group. It’s a fitting name for a “large and in charge” distillery. We wish Silverback Distillery the best in its journey of growth!
