Rule Your Nest at Silverback Distillery
“Rule your nest. Be an Alpha.” This is the motto of Afton’s newest establishment, Silverback Distillery, which just had its grand opening a couple weeks ago. Silverback, which shares its name with the adult, male leader of a group of gorillas, will be a welcome addition to the established wineries, craft breweries, and cidery in the neighborhood. If you stop by their tasting room, you’ll get a taste for these primate-themed spirits, including vodka, gin, whiskey, and bourbon:
Beringei Vodka- This vodka is “distilled using a continuous column distillation process” and offers a sweet, flavorful character created form pure, mountain water and winter wheat and grains. (In keeping with Silverback’s theme, “Beringei” is the scientific name for Mountain and Eastern Lowland Gorillas.) Stay tuned…Silverback’s Beringei Sweet Tea Vodka will be coming soon!
Strange Monkey Gin- Silverback’s gin is crafted in a “dedicated Gin still” by the traditional process of distillation. As Silverback says, “We do not steep botanicals in bags, such as making a cup of tea. Gorillas don’t drink tea. We do not contract others to add gin flavor for us… Our recipe is traditional. Our gin is eminently drinkable.”

In the future, Silverback will also be offering Blackback Bourbon and Whisky and Blackback White Whisky (named for young, male gorillas that will eventually grow into silverbacks). As of now, these spirits are aging in their barrels.
Overall, we think Silverback Distillery is an excellent addition to Nelson 151. And speaking of Nelson 151, there is a brand new mobile app available with a number of handy features for your Afton getaway. You'll find a location-based list of wineries, breweries, cidery and distillery, along with restaurants, maps, events, special deals, and location check-in to track where you've been. The best part? It’s free! Click here to check out the app, and use it to help you find your way to both Silverback Distillery and Afton Mountain Bed & Breakfast.
