A Rockfish Valley Chocolate Festival
“Chocolate is the first luxury. It has so many things wrapped up in it: deliciousness in the moment, childhood memories, and that grin-inducing feeling of getting a reward for being good.” –Mariska Hargitay
Most people enjoy chocolate, right? You’ve got your milk chocolate, dark chocolate, chocolate fondue, hot chocolate, and chocolate desserts of all varieties. So why not celebrate this much-loved cacao product with a local festival?
This Saturday, November 8, 2014, the Literacy Volunteers of Nelson County (LVNC) will be presenting their Chocolate Festival at the Rockfish Valley Community Center. Want to indulge in the rich waterfall of a chocolate fountain? You’ll find it at the festival. How about candy-making and chocolate mole contest? Yes, you can also find these at the festival too. Other activities will include live music, a silent auction, chocolate workshops, vendors, crafters, Laughter Yoga, Chocolate Caliente, and more.
While this festival is a wonderful opportunity for chocolate-lovers, it also serves to celebrate the work that the Literacy Volunteers of Nelson County have been doing since the 1990s. The LVNC works to “promote and foster increased literacy and English language and computer skills proficiency in Nelson County, Virginia.” They carry out their mission through the efforts of trained tutors who volunteer their time and energy for the organization.
We applaud the work of the LVNC and encourage you to join them at the festival and spoil yourself with some quality chocolate. (The Rockfish Valley Community Center is five minutes away from Afton Mountain Bed & Breakfast, so if you’re staying with us this weekend, you’re only a quick drive from the festival.)
