Revel in the Wintergreen Summer Music Festival
Summer in the Shenandoah Valley offers an abundance of festivals, and one of them happens to take place only a little ways away from Afton Mountain Bed & Breakfast at Wintergreen. (To be specific, it is twenty-five minutes to the mountaintop and ten minutes from Wintergreen’s Stoney Creek location).
The Wintergreen Summer Music Festival runs through August 4, 2013. This year’s theme is “In My Mind’s Eye: Image, Imagery, and Imagination in the Arts.” After a few weeks of seminars and educational sessions, the performances begin, celebrating summer in an exceptional display of orchestral music and theatrical performances. According to Wintergreen, this summer’s performances will explore the questions, “What sparks the imagination of a creative genius, and how do we perceive his or her work? How do our individual ‘mind's eyes’ shape our own understanding and enjoyment of the arts?” (Wintergreen Performing Arts).
With over 200 different events and performances, the Wintergreen Summer Music Festival holds no shortage of melodious entertainment. Indulge in the grand instrumentation of the Wintergreen Festival Orchestra, the Academy Chamber Ensemble, the Academy String Orchestra, jazz and solo concerts, and coffee concerts.
