Open House Weekends at Michie Tavern
If you caught of one our past Afton Mountain blogs about Charlottesville, Virginia’s Michie Tavern, then you’ll understand why we promote all of its wonderful offerings—traditional colonial cuisine, period costumes, self-guided tours, and shopping at the tavern’s General Store.
It’s here at the General Store where you’re invited to celebrate the holidays at Michie Tavern’s Holiday Open House Weekends. Sip a glass of rich, local wine or a mug of hot, mulled cider as you explore all of the wares of the gift shop. Need a unique gift for friends and family? How about a pewter Civil War chess set, a colonial costume, a jar of Summer Thistle honey, or a replica 18th century pistol. From food products to tableware, Michie Tavern boasts a wide range of historically inspired items that will certainly make you a celebrated gift-giver. (If you won’t be able to make it to Michie Tavern, and you would still like to browse their store items for potential holiday gifts, then have no fear; the tavern provides online shopping as well.)
Every Open House Weekend will also feature a special guest. This coming weekend, December 14 and 15, will highlight the hammered dulcimer music of Timothy Seaman. With fifteen albums to his name, Timothy is a well-known soloist throughout Virginia, bringing past and present to merge with the help of his extended-range hammered dulcimer. On this coming Sunday only, Michie Tavern will also be hosting Bone Doctors’ BBQ, an award-winning, all natural barbecue sauce created by two local orthopedic surgeons.
