Oktoberfest Celebrations
Green is slowly but surely being usurped by orange. Walk into any store, and you’ll see a sudden burst of orange, autumn-themed merchandise that almost rivals the coming fall foliage in its intensity of hue. You may have guessed by now that fall is coming.
If you caught one of our last blogs, “5 Reasons to Visit Afton in Autumn,” then you’ll know that a celebrated part of fall around many areas (including this one) is Oktoberfest.
No one celebrates Oktoberfest better than our Nelson County breweries. On September 25, 2014, Devils Backbone Brewing Company invites you to Oktoberfest at their brewery, lasting from 11:30 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. You’ll be treated to a special menu and of course, an excellent selection of award-winning craft beer. And if you’re looking for that perfect autumn beer, try out the “Pumpkin Hunter,” which Devils Backbone calls “a frighteningly delicious ale” with a “warming flavor and aroma of pumpkin pie in a glass.”
One day of Oktoberfest just isn’t sufficient for Blue Mountain Brewery, so they’ll be celebrating for nine whole days, starting September 27, 2014 and ending October 5, 2014. Blue Mountain will be presenting German menu specials, live music, a cornhole tournament, a local sausage tasting, and a keg toss tournament. It doesn’t get much better than this!
Another Oktoberfest celebration will take place a bit down the road at Staunton, Virginia’s outdoor Frontier Culture Museum (which is only a 25-minute drive away from our B&B). The museum’s 12th Annual Oktoberfest will span the weekend of October 4 and 5, 2014 and will include everything from live music to traditional German food to a Beer Garden. (Admission to Oktoberfest will also allow you access to the rest of the museum as well, so take advantage and enjoy a historic tour.)
These festivities are coming up faster than you think, so make your Afton Mountain reservation now, and get ready for Oktoberfest.
