The Nelson Farmers’ Market
Not only does springtime introduce a return to warmth and greenery in Nelson County, but it also welcomes back the much anticipated Farmers’ Market, the hub of local produce, baked goods, herbs, crafts, and live music.
Starting April 12, 2014 the Nelson Farmers’ Market will be open every Saturday from 8 a.m. until noon, rain or shine. You’re in for a treat with the host of vendors that will be offering their goods for your perusal:
Lorraine Bakery- As a true artisan bakery, this Lynchburg-based company hand-makes all of their European-inspired goods with stone deck ovens and steam injections. With over 30 different types of bread, Lorraine Bakery has everything from savory ham and cheese croissants to sweetly satisfying Danishes. (They also pride themselves on never using additives or preservatives in their products.)
Heaven and Earth Acres- This Nellysford, VA orchard supplies the Farmers’ Market with a wealth of rich, succulent fruits—pears, plums, peaches, nectarines, cherries, and more. Fruits aren’t the only things they grow, however. You’ll also find peppers, eggplants, arugula, various herbs, and Winter squash.
Claudia Gibson Catering- Claudia Gibson specializes in “unique international food,” and you can get a taste for her baked goods at the Nelson Farmers’ Market. Sink your teeth into Sweet Almond Corn Buns, Gluten-Free Muffins, Italian Puglia rolls, Chocolate hazelnut cake, Key lime pie, and tiramisu. Claudia Gibson is also your personal chef for anniversaries, birthdays, wedding, or private parties.
Blue Ridge Pizza Company- You may have hard us mention these guys before, since they make their way around to a number of our local wineries and breweries. Blue Ridge Pizza Company is a fantastic mobile, wood-fired pizza oven that rests right in the back of a truck. Using Breadworks Bakery dough, you’ll find pizza selections like the Cool as a Cantaloupe, the Vegetarian Goat, and The Peachy Pig.
These are only a few of the vendors that will be available to browse at the Nelson Farmers’ Market, so you’ll just have to visit for yourself to get the full experience. (And if you’re in need of lodging, Afton Mountain B&B is only a short drive away!)
