Local Farm to Table Restaurants
Even if you don’t think of yourself as a foodie, you’ve probably heard of the farm-to-table movement. For a full breakdown, here’s an official Wikipedia definition:
Farm-to-table (or farm-to-fork, and in some cases farm-to-school) is a social movement which promotes serving local food at restaurants and school cafeterias, preferably through direct acquisition from the producer (which might be a winery, brewery, ranch, fishery, or other type of food producer which is not strictly a "farm").
Yeah, it’s a pretty big deal.
There are a myriad of restaurants and eateries in our area turning the food industry on its head with their creative use of local ingredients. Here are a few of our favorites:
Basic Necessities. Located 8 miles down the road from us, this Nellysford restaurant has ambiance to match its amazing cuisine. This European inspired restaurant takes on a “slow food,” mentality, inviting its guests to spend time at their table enjoying the best wines, cheeses, and seasonal menu.
Dr. Ho’s Humble Pie. If you’re looking for a pizza which creatively plays the line between traditional and revolutionary, you’ll love Dr. Ho’s Humble Pie. Their moto? “There’s no shortcut to pizza.” That’s why every detail is handcrafted, like their Buff Orpington Pizza that’s topped with local hen eggs, spinach, roasted tomatoes, smoked bacon, sliced mushrooms, Swiss and Mozzarella cheese, and a Sriracha drizzle.
Greenwood Gourmet Grocery. This deli is a hallmark of the Blue Ridge area, offering sandwiches, salads, boxed lunches, and daily specials which will blow your mind. Seriously, their Virginia Ham with brie and apple chutney is outstanding. When you visit, browse their shelves for a varied selection of local goods.
Lastly, we feature ingredients from local farms and businesses in every breakfast we make. From Tall Cotton Farm’s eggs, to produce from Critzer Family Farm, you’ll savor each bit of local goodness. For a broader explanation on where our breakfast ingredients come from, click here.
