Hooray for a Hoopla at Devils Backbone Brewing Company!
We are fans of Devils Backbone Brewing Company for a number of reasons. Firstly (and maybe most importantly!), we like their tasty, locally-brewed, award-winning craft beer. Secondly, we love their beautiful Virginia local with scenery that spans a hundred acres nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Thirdly, we enjoy the fun variety of events that they host, including everything from regular trivia nights to special 75-mile bike rides. One new event coming at the end of this month is the Devils Backbone Hoopla, and we think we just might love this festival as well.
“Our Hoopla Adventures are activities, events and workshops that celebrate the seven amazing values that make up the Devils Backbone culture: Beer Positive, Passion, Adventure, Family, Humility, Integrity, and Stewardship.” From September 29, 2016 to October 2, 2016, you’ll have the opportunity to explore what each of these values entails. While you can find a more detailed description of each of these activities on the Devils Backbone website, let’s take a look at a quick overview to spark some Hoopla excitement:
Beer Positive: It all starts with the Tapping of the Official Hoopla Beer—the Imperial Salted Caramel Apple Baltic Porter!
Passion: Live music and storytelling will provide the perfect entertainment to accompany the festivities.
Adventure: Not only will the Hoopla have beer and live music, but it will also offer yoga, hiking, a mountain bike ride, and a tour of a few Nelson County cideries and distilleries.
Family: It’s family-friendly! Enjoy kids’ games and activities, a climbing wall, face painting, s’mores and caramel apples, instrument making, and a kids’ parade.
Humility: Learn and express yourself with this value. Take part in the graffiti wall, Lager 101 session, AT Hikers Panel, pumpkin painting, and beer painting, and a whole lot more.
Integrity: Show your sportsmanship with games of human foosball, a scavenger hunt, a 5K run, Frisbee, and cornhole.
Stewardship: Do some good while you party! Help remove trash from the road, donate to the food and coat drive, and help clean up the campground after all of the revelry and merrymaking.
How fun does this event sound? While we’re all booked up the Saturday and Sunday of the Hoopla, we have rooms available Thursday, September 29 and Sunday, October 2, so we’d love to see you here at Afton Mountain Bed & Breakfast before or after the festival!
