Fantastic Apples: Celebrate Virginia Cideries
If you’ve been following our blog and social media profiles for a while, then you know we enjoy the fantastic local wineries, vineyards, and breweries, as well as Afton, VA's brand new distillery. What you may not hear much about is the local hard cideries. We feel that these cideries are vastly underappreciated, so we’ve decided to highlight a few of our favorites for your perusal:
Bold Rock Hard Cider, Nellysford, VA- Bold Rock Hard Cider, which recently won C’vill Weekly’s “Best Cidery 2013,” is an award-winning establishment with four fantastic varieties of ciders—the Virginia Draft, the Virginia Apple, and the Crimson Ridge: Vol. No. 1, and Crimson Ridge: Vintage Dry.
Albemarle CiderWorks, North Garden, VA- Albemarle CiderWorks offers a number of cider varieties from the “elegantly dry” GoldRush to the tropical blend of the Pomme Mary. As with wine, these ciders can be paired with various foods to enhance the flavors and compliment your palate.
Castle Hill Cider, Keswick, VA- Castle Hill Cider, once the 18th Century home of Thomas Jefferson’s mentor, provides four poetically named hard ciders-—Terrestrial, Levity, Celestial, and Gravity. Each is its own delight from a refreshing blend of peach and apple to earthy spices, to vanilla and grapefruit.
