A Big Welcome to Blue Toad Hard Cider & Cidery
Wineries and breweries and cideries, oh my! Nelson County is full of fun beverages (including its very own distillery), and we’re happy to celebrate the arrival of a brand new libation location just down the road in Nellsyford, VA. Blue Toad Hard Cider & Cidery is the product of Todd Rath who previously owned and ran the Blue Toad Restaurant. Now Todd has set out on his next venture, which has brought us a brand new cidery and tasting room. Let’s take a look at a few Blue Toad Hard Cider facts:
- Todd is partnering with Well Hung Vineyard at the space where the Blue Toad Restaurant (and more recently the Rockfish One Fifty-One Pub) used to be. So, the Blue Toad Hard Cider and Well Hung Vineyard will share a tasting room on the 151 Brewery/Winery trail, giving you two tasting types in one stop.
- Blue Toad Hard Cider comes in three different varieties at the moment—the Blue Ridge Blonde, the Roc Hard Amber, and a seasonal harvest blend, which Todd describes as “kind of like drinking apple pie.”
- Both the apples in the cider and the cidery’s available meats and cheeses are from local sources. The apples come from Silver Creek Orchard in Tyro, VA, while the meats and cheeses are from Boar’s Head.
- Cidery hours:
Monday - Thursday 12:00 PM – 5:00 PM
Friday & Saturday 11:00 A.M. – 6:00 P.M.
Sundays Noon – 5:00 P.M.
- For the latest updates, follow Blue Toad’s Facebook page.
Todd has plans for weekend food trucks, Thursday steak nights, pub fare, and wine for sale. We wish Blue Toad Hard Cider the best of luck and can’t wait to try it out for ourselves! (Coming to Nelson County to try out the new hard cider? Grab a room at Afton Mountain Bed & Breakfast.)
