5 Reasons to Visit Afton in Autumn
Can you believe autumn is only a month away? We love summer, and while we’re sad to see the warmth and green depart, we’re also looking forward to everything that comes along with fall in Afton:
- The cool (but not cold) weather. The oppressive heat and humidity of the summer months gradually ease into a crisp chill, particularly in the mornings. If you’ve been choosing air conditioning over the great outdoors, then this is the perfect time of year for you to venture outside. And speaking of the outdoors, this brings us to our next reason to visit Afton in the fall.
- The scenery. Can we all agree that Virginia is one of the U.S.A.’s most beautiful fall locations? With bursts of red, gold, orange, and yellow, autumn on Afton Mountain arrives with fanfare. Hike local trails like Humpback or Crabtree Falls, take a scenic drive, or just enjoy the fall foliage from Afton Mountain B&B’s front porch.
- The Heritage Harvest Festival at Monticello. The Heritage Harvest Festival is historic fun that celebrates Thomas Jefferson’s accomplishments in “vegetable cuisine, plant experimentation and sustainable agriculture.” Attend workshops, listen to keynote speakers, and indulge in a harvest dinner at the home of “America’s founding foodie.”
- Carter Mountain Orchard’s Apple Harvest Festival. Every weekend of October 2014, Carter Mountain Orchard will present its visitors with fall festivities—live music, hayrides, apple picking, food vendors, cider, donuts, and more.
- Oktoberfest. Our local breweries know how to greet the autumn season! Devils Backbone presents their Oktoberfest festivities on September 25, while Blue Mountain Brewery offers theirs on September 28, 29, and 30. Another Oktoberfest celebration will take place about 25 minutes away from our inn at the Frontier Culture Museum in Staunton, VA. The museum’s 12th Annual Oktoberfest will now cover two days, October 4 and 5, 2014.
Enjoy the last few weeks of summer, and we look forward to seeing you in the fall!
