3 Springtime Activities around Afton, VA
We’re already halfway through Punxsutawney Phil’s six more weeks of winter—and he was certainly right—which means that the anticipation of springtime is almost reaching overwhelming. If you’re like us, then you’re getting tired of holing up indoors to escape the frigid temperatures. Thankfully though, warmer weather will be arriving soon, bringing with it a wealth of outdoor activities that will allow you to stretch your legs after a winter of hibernation:
- Golfing- There is no place as idyllic for golf as the Swannanoa Golf & Country Club: “Everywhere you look there are sweeping vistas. On one side is the majestic Shenandoah Valley and on the other spreads the Piedmont. With a long history of being the scenic destination of golf aficionados this course has been around a long time.” Plus, did you know that President Calvin Coolidge played on this golf course? Take a note from President Coolidge and gather your clubs for an Afton, VA tee time.
- Horseback Riding- Our nearby trail rides offer more than just an afternoon in the saddle; they also include wine tasting at a few of our nearby award-winning vineyards. Both Rebel’s Run in Afton and Indian Summer Guide Service in Keswick provide sturdy, trustworthy mounts, lush Virginia scenery, and reds and whites to delight your palate. These horses are well-trained, so even if you’re not a terribly experienced rider, you’ll still enjoy this outing.
- Fishing- Imagine yourself on the banks of a river, fishing pole in hand, the warm sun overhead, and a soft breeze in the air. Sounds inviting, right? Unleash the angler within, and get in some quality fishing with one of our nearby businesses. The Albemarle Angler in Charlottesville is a “full service guide and outfitter specializing in fly fishing,” and they offer private trout waters, daily guided trips, and small mouth bass fishing. Similarly, the South River Fly Shop in Waynesboro is a “full service fly fishing shop and guide service,” open seven days a week, and carrying a line of fly fishing products.
Hang in there, everyone…spring will be here before you know it!
