“Reflecting the genius and versatility of its creator, Jefferson's Monticello is a monument to a scrupulous interest in architecture, landscaping, agriculture, and domestic comforts” (NPS). There is no doubt that Monticello is an aesthetic wonder, not only in its architecture, but also in its gardens.
“It’s no secret that [Starr Hill’s] mission is The Gift of Great Beer. Every culture in the world has a fermented, cereal grain beverage that people use to sit around and talk. I’m a steward of the product that enhances this thing we call life.” --Mark Thompson, Master Brewer
“When I visited the Blackfriars Playhouse, I was instantly captivated by its atmosphere and by the amazing work that goes on there. It is a center of excellence and should be protected and cherished.” – Dame Judi Dench, on visiting the American Shakespeare Center
“Wine is one of the most civilized things in the world and one of the most natural things of the world that has been brought to the greatest perfection, and it offers a greater range for enjoyment and appreciation than, possibly, any other purely sensory thing.” ― Ernest Hemingway
The Blue Toad is a relatively new pub located in Afton. It is owned and run by Todd Rath, and we at Afton Mountain Bed & Breakfast highly recommend it to our guests. The menu has a wide variety of foods that range from our favorites like the Irish Sheppard’s Pie and the Fish & Chips to our guests’ much-loved Summer Strawberry Chicken Salad. Top it all off with an unbelievable selection of beers from all over the country.
“Most produce in the US is picked 4 to 7 days before being placed on supermarket shelves, and is shipped for an average of 1500 miles before being sold. And this is when taking into account only US grown products” (Local Harvest). This certainly sounds much less appealing than buying fresh produce from local farms, which is where we at Afton Mountain Bed & Breakfast acquire ingredients for our breakfasts.
